On The Rise

Neon Hitch is a new sexy pop sensation that is going to be sweeping the dance clubs and radio stations very soon. She is currently working on her full debut album titled Beg, Borrow & Steal in the states and I personally can’t wait for it to drop. I am calling it right now that she is going to have at least 2 club bangers on the LP that get massive radio play. She already has quite a few great covers with Mike Posner, Travie McCoy and Miike Snow. Here are a few tracks to give you a taste of her upcoming record.

Classic Nostalgia

When you’re 21 your world is shaped by the experiences that you had while growing up. Unfortunately some of us miss out o these awesome pop culture movements but nonetheless will sooner or later resurrect them and claim them as our own.

First there was Nintendo

The cardboard sensation- POGs

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Savage Garden.

The resurrection of the Yo-Yo.

It’s quite obvious by now that I have left out some major turning points in a late 80’s and 90’s child’s life such as the boy band era, and even more notably Maroon 5 and their ridiculous popularity only to be coupled with the joke- “I heard you liked shitty music so I bought you this Maroon 5 CD.” It’s easy to look back now and tell yourself that you would have done things differently, but one of my only regrets as a child was not giving classic rock the warm place in my heart that it deserved.

As of late I have stumbled upon a great band from Sweden that brings back the beautiful art of classic rock. This is not a shitty cover band or people who live in the past. These are individuals that express a newly rediscovered genre that is classic rock among mainstream listeners.

Graveyard is a refreshing taste of old that one cannot get from anything that is on the popular list of Hype Machine or even many blogs that are publicly noted as “good” and “accurate”. The raw recordings that their self-titled LP possess only add to the raw-uncut feel that their music gives off. When listening you cannot help but be moved to a new generation and appreciate this band’s talent. Good luck stumbling upon bands like this with Pitchfork’s fucked up album scales and their pretentious writers who’s reviews depend on how well their relationship with their father is going. It’s unfortunate that bands like this are few and far between but when we find one we must cherish it. SO DO IT.

Everything is gonna be alright

So as of late I have come to a new place in my life where things are seemingly falling into place. I am beginning to surrounding myself with positive people and positive situations. I will forever live in this moment and never look forward into the future. Always appreciate what you surround yourself with and never wish it away. You never know what you will be missing until it is too late so immerse yourself and let yourself feel.

This song, amongst others, simply embodies what I mean. For those who don’t know this is a new band titled CEO and their debut album, White Magic, dropped on the 30th of June so go out and buy yourself a copy. This should give you a little bit of incentive…

The Heavy

These cat’s name says it all. This group comes to us out of the UK with a unique style for today’s time. Their technique is very soulful and James Brown-esque with numerous horns and light playful guitar licks. All in all this music is fun but also very real. Listening to the lyrics to How You Like Me Now?, off of their album titled The House That Dirt Built, explains the wanting and desire of a troubled individual. A very real feeling if you have ever wanted something, or someone, you just couldn’t have. Give the song a listen and enjoy this new music movement we are in.

Today is Thanksgiving and straight up, I am thankful for Lupe putting out his new mixtape, Enemy of the State: A Love Story, late last night. Honestly, I don’t really pay any mind to mixtapes normally but I hadn’t heard from Lupe in a long long time so I figured it was worth checking out. Needless to say, it is awesome. Lupe’s clean delivery can flow over an beat but the stuff he chose to put on his mixtape is undaunted by a lot of cats in the game right now. Luckily for us Lupe is definitely not done with music. He plans on releasing his LupE.N.D. album on 3 separate releases with mixtapes scattered in between. We don’t have to wait too long for the first album either, it’s looking to be around December 15, 2009, so get stoked hip-hop heads. For now, you can hold yourself off with his mixtape. EnjoY!

Roslyn… Amazing.

Up with your turret
Aren’t we just terrified?
Shale, screen your worry from what you won’t ever find

Don’t let it fool you
Don’t let it fool you…down
Down’s sitting round, folds in the gown

Sea and the rock below
Cocked to the undertow
Bones blood and teeth erode, with every crashing node

Wings wouldn’t help you
Wings wouldn’t help you…down
Down fills the ground, gravity’s proud

You barely are blinking
Wagging your face around
When’d this just become a mortal home?

Won’t, won’t, won’t, won’t

Won’t let you talk me
Won’t let you talk me…down
Will pull it taut, nothing let out

BlakRoc

So The Black Keys have hooked up with 11 huge hip-hop heads in 11 days making an album with 11 tracks. This has to be one of the coolest music collaborative projects I have ever heard of. It is similar to Ratatat’s Remix albums but more organic. There are some really cool jazz and post-rock licks on the hooks which, really emphasize the heavy hitting lineup they have on the album. If you like hip-hop you have to love this album. Check out the Track list and give it a listen. BlakRoc’s album is set to drop Black Friday 11/27/09! EnjoY!
